About me

Jens has had 100+ fantasy, mystery, horror, and comedic works published as fiction, poems, non-fiction, a comic book, 1-act plays, and her award-winning novel-in-stories, The Blues Ain't Nothin': Tales of the Lonesome Blues Pub. She served as the editor for Twilight Tales small press for ten years, and leader of the TT reading series for 15. For a decade, she taught the fantasy writing courses at Columbia College Chicago. Jens received a Rubin Family Fellowship artist residency at Ragdale Foundation. She runs the monthly Gumbo Fiction Salon reading series (resuming now, after a hiatus). She lives in Chicago, IL with her husband, Barry, and one or more foster guinea pigs.
I'd love to talk to folks about fantasy, dark fantasy, paranormal, supernatural, time-travel, and chick-adventure fiction. Also, characters who are/have: women from all walks of life, physical/neuro-disabilities, anthropomorphized animals. Being a writer/editor/teacher/human while dealing with physical/neuro-disabilities. Writing in general, with special emphasis on characterization, structure, setting, editing yourself, critiquing others. Teaching fiction writing, running a writing workshop, running a reading series, giving a great reading, and in-person networking advice for beginners. Music, including Jazz, blues, R&B, Americana, and old rock. Genre TV series, especially if they have monsters or a cool woman protagonist.
