About me
Chris M. Barkley is a fan activist from Cincinnati, Ohio. He has been active in sf fandom for over 47 years and has attended over 200 conventions, including 31 World Science Fiction Conventions.
He has also been a Convention Chair (Cinclave in 1986) a radio talk show host and producer, a standup comedian, film and television reviewer, a film extra (who can be seen VERY, VERY BRIEFLY in 1993’s “A Rage In Harlem”) a City of Cincinnati Department of Recreation employee, a fraud investigator for a credit card company and a professional bookseller (in an independent bookstore and online) since 1993.
Currently, he writes an irregularly scheduled fan writing column on File770.com, So Glad You (Didn’t) Ask: A Column of Unsolicited Opinions, whose 2021 works were nominated for a Hugo Award in the Best Fan Writer category, which was awarded at Chicon 8 in September. Chris Barkley was the Fan Guest of Honor at Windycon in 2019 and thr Fan GoH at Astronomicon in Rochester, NY in November 2022.
In addition, he was the 2023 recipient of the Hugo Award for Best Fan Writer at the 81st World Science Fiction Convention in Chengdu, China.
